TIP #9 - GENERAL TACTICS
This week's tip is a simple summary of what
each player is expected to do depending on where they are on the field.
NOTE! If you are a forward and you are playing defense or midfield,
you will be doing the things that are expected in those position.
General Defending Tactics:
1. Deny!
Defenders do NOT give away field position or scoring opportunities.
You are expected to close with the attackers and keep them out of the
danger area in front of our goal.
2. Destroy!
This does not mean hurt anybody, but it does mean to break up the
attackers' attempt to organize. Pressure on the ball and on second
attackers can cause a quick turn over to us.
3. Develop!
Once we DENY and DESTROY, we will gain possession of the ball, we need to
quickly put our attack together. This means clearing to the midfield
or pushing the ball into space for our forwards.
General Midfield Tactics:
1. Build. Keep
possession of the ball by making sure and accurate passes or dribbling to
open space.
2. Connect.
Getting the whole team to support the attacking effort. Bringing up
training defenders and pursuing forwards wide and into space.
3. Support. As
midfield pushes the ball forward, support attacking players by being a
pass back or an overlapping run.
General Attacking Tactics:
1. Move!
Crossing runs - Curving runs - Overlaps - etc.
2. Receive! Use
combination play (dribbling and passing) to keep possession and look for
the shot.
3. Finish!
Focus on the ball and hit it with determination for the SCORE!
