The SECOND Attacker has a simple job to be
IMMEDIATE SUPPORT to the FIRST Attacker. Notice I did not say
EVENTUALLY supporting. I said IMMEDIATE SUPPORT.
To do this the SECOND Attacker has a lot of
choices. She can be BEHIND the FIRST Attacker for a back pass.
She can be SQUARE. Or she can be IN FRONT.
There can be several players in the SECOND
Attacker position. BUT they need to be positioned so that one DEFENDER
can not cover both the FIRST and SECOND Attackers.
SECOND Attacker need to communicate and COMBINE
with the FIRST Attacker by making penetrating runs, overlapping with the
FIRST Attacker, making "bent" runs, creating wall passes, run by
the FIRST Attacker for a "take over" pass, etc. In other
words. Second Attackers are MOVING and TALKING to give the First
Attacker choices to pass, or pulling the defense to allow the First Attacker
to dribble to space.
REMEMBER THAT SECOND ATTACKERS WANT
TO BECOME THE FIRST ATTACKER!
Some common mistakes made by SECOND Attackers:
1. Standing and
watching
2. Not communicating
3. Running too close to
the FIRST Attacker
4. Too SLOW to support
the FIRST Attacker
5. Making supporting
runs with the defender between you and the ball/FIRST Attacker
By the way, when the Goalkeeper has the ball,
what role is she? What should be happening within 15-30 yards of the
'Keeper?
